Everything we take on

Every job below is one we do ourselves across Englewood.

Deck Installation

We build new decks on pressure-treated pine framing or an aluminum sub-frame, depending on what the site calls for. Footings get sized for the load and set below grade, and ledger boards get flashed properly so water can't work behind the siding. Board spacing accounts for composite expansion or wood movement, so the deck stays flat instead of cupping.

Deck Repair

Rotted joists, sagging beams, popped screws, we deal with all of it. Sometimes one bad ledger board is the reason the whole deck feels loose. We replace what's failed instead of just bracing around it.

Deck Staining & Sealing

Florida sun and salt air chew through a clear coat fast. We pressure wash first, let the wood dry out, then apply a penetrating stain or sealer rated for UV and moisture. Composite decking gets a different cleaning approach since sealers don't apply the same way.

Custom Deck Design

Multi-level decks, built-in benches, pergolas over part of the deck, whatever the yard calls for. We draw it out before cutting a single board, so you know what the stairs and railing height will look like ahead of time.

Composite Decking Installation

Trex, TimberTech, AZEK, we've worked with most of the composite lines and know which hidden fastener system fits which board profile. Composite doesn't rot, but it still needs the right joist spacing underneath or it'll deflect over time.

Deck Railing Installation

Aluminum, cable, wood baluster, glass panel, we install what matches the house and meets the 36 to 42 inch height code. Baluster spacing gets checked against the 4 inch code gap so it passes inspection the first time.

Deck Resurfacing & Board Replacement

If the frame underneath is still solid, we can pull the old boards and put down new decking without touching the structure. That's usually the cheaper fix if the joists haven't rotted yet.

Pool Deck Installation

Pool decks need to handle standing water and chlorine splash without the boards cupping. We use composite or specific PT lumber with proper drainage gaps and non-slip finishes near the water's edge.

Screened-In Deck & Porch Additions

Turning an open deck into a screened space changes the load on the frame and the drainage underneath. We size the framing for the added roof load before a single screen panel goes up.

Deck Demolition & Rebuild

Some decks are past saving, rot in the ledger board, footings that were never poured right, framing undersized for the load. We tear it down to the posts or all the way to grade and start over with a structure built for Florida wind and rain.

How It Works

Four steps, and no surprises in any of them.

01

We come and look

You tell us what you want doing, we look at what is actually there, and we ask the awkward questions early.

02

You get a price

In writing, itemised, free. If something might add cost later we flag it now rather than at the end.

03

We do the work

Same crew throughout. We cover your floors, keep the dust down and tidy up before we leave each day.

04

We walk it with you

You point out anything you are not happy with and we fix it before the invoice, not after.

Common Questions

Things worth asking

What tends to come up once a deck project is actually underway.

Do I need a permit to build a deck in Florida?
Most elevated decks attached to a house require a building permit in Florida, along with an inspection of the footings and framing before the decking goes down. Low, ground-level decks under a certain height sometimes fall outside permit requirements, but that varies by county.
How long does it take to build a deck?
A standard single-level deck usually takes one to two weeks from the first footing to the last board, depending on size and weather. Multi-level decks, screened additions or pool decks with extra drainage work take longer.
Can a deck be built to fit a specific budget?
Decking material is usually the biggest lever, since pressure-treated pine costs less than composite or PVC boards. Simplifying the railing style, stair count or deck shape also brings the price down without changing the footprint much.
What kind of guarantee comes with a new deck?
Workmanship on framing and installation is typically covered under a warranty period specific to the contractor, separate from the manufacturer's warranty on decking material like composite boards. Both should be provided in writing before the project starts.
Who handles questions day to day once a deck project is underway?
On most deck jobs there's a lead carpenter or project contact on site who can answer questions about progress without needing to call an office every time. That contact should be identified before the project starts.
What decking materials are typically used?
Pressure-treated pine, cedar, composite boards like Trex or TimberTech, and PVC decking are the main options for a new deck. Pressure-treated pine costs less upfront but needs sealing every couple of years, while composite costs more but doesn't rot or need staining.
Can the yard still be used while a deck is being built?
Most of the yard stays usable during a deck build, though the immediate work area needs to stay clear for safety and material staging. Pets and kids should generally stay clear of the site until framing and decking are secure.
What should be done to prepare a site before deck construction starts?
Clearing furniture, grills and planters away from the existing deck or the build site makes the first day faster. If the ground underneath needs grading or old decking needs demolishing, that gets scheduled before framing begins.
What happens if rot or termite damage turns up once the old decking comes off?
Hidden rot or termite damage in the ledger board or support posts sometimes only shows up once the old decking is pulled up. That work gets priced separately once it's visible, since it's not something a quote can predict from the surface.
How should a finished deck be maintained afterward?
Pressure-treated wood decks need to be resealed roughly every one to two years in Florida's sun and humidity, while composite decking mainly needs periodic washing to prevent mildew buildup. Checking railing posts and fasteners once a year catches most problems before they get expensive.
